Changes at Tucson Chayon-Ryu

Tucson Chayon-Ryu has moved! We’re now renting space from another local martial arts school, Aikido of Tucson, at 210 W. 5th Street. We’re very excited to be able to take advantage of a large training space that’s been designed with martial arts in mind.

Our evening class times – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 – have remained the same. Our Saturday morning classes, however, are now Saturday afternoon classes, starting at one. The calendar in the sidebar here on the site has been updated to include the new class times.

The new location is part of another big change at Tucson Chayon-Ryu this year: the retirement of Master Charlotte Hwang from active teaching, and the promotion of Kyosanim Robyn Fleming to chief instructor of the Tucson branch. Kyosanim Fleming has been training for twenty years, and teaching for over half that time, and is very excited to be taking the next step in her martial arts career.

One thing that hasn’t changed much – yet – is this website! Keep an eye on TucsonCYR.com over the next few weeks as we bring all of the information on our pages up to date.

Tonight’s class was the last of 2008!  Tucson Chayon-Ryu is on break until Tuesday, January 6th, when regular classes will resume.  Have a great vacation, everyone!

While surfing the internet this evening, I stumbled across this video of Master Kim Geary performing bong sparring drills at a demonstration in 2007:

Tucson Chayon-Ryu students who attended last Thursday’s class might be able to recognize some of the techniques that we worked on briefly at the beginning of class reflected in Master Geary’s demonstration.
